Frequently Asked Question in PE

1. What are the expectations for suiting out?

AnswerStudents are expected to attend and suit out everyday in a school issued PE uniform.  If a students fails to suit out then they will lose (2 daily points).  The proper gym suit includes:  School issued:  Dark blue shorts, white t-shirt.  Students are responsible for providing white socks and tennis shoes. (must fit tightly enough that they don’t come off during physical activity!!!).  The gym suit should be taken home and laundered once a week.  If a students suit is “in the wash”, then it is acceptable to borrow a PE uniform from you PE teacher but points will be deducted from daily grade.  Sagging pants is against school policy and will be enforced in PE class.  All students will wear their shorts around their waistline and tuck their shirts in. 

2.  Can my child wear jewelry in class?

Answer:  All students are expected to remove all jewelry, headbands, watches, friendship bracelets, necklaces, etc. during class.  Failure to do this will result in a 2 pt. deduction off of a student’s daily grade.  Only stud earrings are acceptable to wear in class.  If ears were recently pierced, student must submit a parent note stating when the earrings were pierced and when they may be removed.

3.  Does my child have to participate in all activities?  

AnswerStudents are expected to dress out and participate everyday.  If a student is injured/sick, a note from a parent/doctor is required in order for the student to participate.  The students will receive 7 daily points for participation.  Every student, regardless of ability, is expected to give all out effort and try to the best of their ability each and every day.  Failure to do this will result in a deduction of their daily participation points. Deductions range from a 3pt, 6pt, and 10 pt. deductions depending upon the level of participation. 

4.  How do you grade in PE?

Answer:  Physical education grade will be graded in 5 areas:  participation, dress, tardiness, behavior, and any written assignments given throughout the year.  Each student will be given 10 daily points each day.  If one of the above five requirements are not met, then a student will lose points.   PE grades will be calculated based on the following grading scale…

5.  How does my student make up a day that he/she has missed in class?

6. My son/daughter is injured.  Do they need to be in PE class?

Answer:  Yes.  Students who are injured need to bring a doctor's note stating their injury. The doctor's note needs to include the length of time the student is excused from activity as well as activities they CAN participate in. If a student is completely excused from all physical activity, "written assignments" or "PE packets" will be given in place of their daily activity.

 

7. My son/daughter believes that other students are stealing their items out of their locker.  Can we purchase our own lock and use it on their PE lockers?

Answer:  No. PE lockers are school property and school officials need to have access to all lockers.  Therefore, only school issued locks may be used.  If you feel that someone knows your combination, talk with you PE teacher and they may issue a new lock to you.  Please stress to your child that they need keep their locks locked at all times and do not share their combo with anybody.
