Headed to STATE

TAfter finishing the regular season 34-3 the Junior Blues traveled to Wichita Heights for sub-state action last Saturday. They dispatched their first opponent, Wichita Southeast, 25-5, 25-11 to advance to the championship match against Wichita East. They took care of business and earned another trip to state by defeating them 25-13, 25-12. This will be the 15th straight trip to state for the Lady Blues, a streak that started before some of the current team members were born.

The Lady Blues open state play Friday at 3:30 against Wichita Northwest, followed by a 5:30 match against Blue Valley North, and an 8:30 contest against Manhattan.

The Lady Blues traveled to Fayetteville, Ark., for the annual Tri- State Challenge. After going 2-0 in pool play and earning the overall #1 seed, they took on a very good Blue Valley HS ( KS) and defeated them in two, 25-17, 25-14 to reach the championship for the fifth straight year. After dropping the first set 22-25, the Lady Blues were behind in set two 7-9 when setter Erika Lane went down with an elbow injury. In what is one of the gutsiest performances by the Lady Blues they went on to win set two 25-20, then won the championship with a 15-8 win in set three.

The Lady Blues traveled to Topeka West where they swept the host Chargers 25-15, 25-17 and then dropped Junction City 25-8, 25-17, and then thumped Shawnee Heights 25-16, 25-12. That raises the Blues overall record to 8-2 and 4-0 in league play.

The JV squad traveled to Junction City and swept the same 3 schools in straight sets to improve their record to 4-2.

The freshman team took second place at the Ottawa Invitational last Saturday, and then took two out of three matches Monday at home to raise their record to 6-5.

Rural drops to Aquinas

The Lady Blues dropped a hard fought match to St. Thomas Aquinas on Thursday night in their home opener 25-21, 21-25, 28-30, 24-26. WaRu's next action is Tuesday at Topeka West taking on the host Chargers, Junction City, and Shawnee Heights.

Lady Blues Sweep at Rossville Quad

The Lady Blues invaded Rossville last night and came away with a three match sweep, beating Emporia 25-8, 25-12, Topeka High 25-11, 25-6, and then dispatching the host school 25-11, 25-11. Next action for the Lady Blues is Thursday, taking on St. Thomas Aquinas in the first home match in the new gym starting at 5pm.

Take Down Trailblazers, Fall to Meige

On Thursday Lady Blues traveled to Gardner-Edgerton where they defeated the host Trailblazers 20-25, 25-18,25-18, and then took on Bishop Miege where they suffered their first loss on the young season 15-25, 26-24, 16-25. The Lady Blues record now stands at 2-1. Next action is Tuesday at Rossville at 5pm.

The Lady Blues traveld to St. James to take on Blue Valley West Jaguars as part of the Metro Sports Volleyball Slam and defeated them in two sets, 25-18, 25-13.
