You have arrived at the website containing information about the band program at Washburn Rural Middle School, Topeka, Kansas.  We are a part of a music department which includes a 7th and 8th grade chorus and a 7th and 8th grade string orchestra.  Information on these other ensembles is located on the school website, wrms.net.

 

Dr. Jack Smith has served as band director at WRMS since 1991.  He has been employed by the Auburn-Washburn School District, USD 437, since 1989.  He previously served in the district as an assistant high school band director and elementary music teacher.  From 1980-1989 , Dr. Smith taught in the Broken Arrow, Oklahoma school district, serving as middle school band director.

 

Dr. Smith has earned degrees at Oral Roberts University (Bachelor of Music Education, San Jose State University (Master of Arts), and Kansas University (Ph.D. in Music Education).
