William Allen White Award (3rd-8th)

This award was established by Emporia State University to honor the memory of one of the state’s most distinguished citizens by encouraging the boys and girls of Kansas to read and enjoy good books. The White Award is given annually to two books, one for 3rd to 5th Grade and one for 6th to 8th Grade. Recipients are chosen by the children of Kansas, who vote for their favorite books from a Master List created by the White Award committee of Kansas teachers and librarians.

Bill Martin, Jr. Picture Book Award (K-2nd)

The Bill Martin, Jr. Picture Book Award was established by the Kansas Reading Association to honor an internationally renowned Kansas author of children's picture books. The purpose of the award is to promote appreciation for quality literature for young children, as well as to commend outstanding authors/illustrators of children's picture books.

Caldecott Award

The Caldecott Medal was named in honor of nineteenth-century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott. It is awarded annually by the American Library Association to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.

The Newbery Medal was named for eighteenth-century British bookseller, John Newbery. It is awarded annually by the American Library Association to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.

Seuss Award

This new award was named for Theodore Seuss Geisel who was better known as Dr. Seuss. It is awarded annually by the American Library Association to the author of the most distinguished contribution to the genre of beginning readers published in the United States.
